Noosaville State School Chaplaincy Service

PublishingPageContent

The school community provides a Chaplaincy Program endorsed by the school’s Parents and Citizens’ Association and available on a voluntary basis to all students.

Chaplaincy is an optional service that has been introduced into state schools to provide students, staff and parents with support which may have a religious and/or spiritual component. Chaplaincy services provide an additional adult role model in schools. The Chaplaincy Program is inclusive of and shows respect for all religious and non-religious beliefs and other stances represented in the school community. All activities and events provided within a chaplaincy program are non-discriminatory and equitably available to students of all beliefs who choose to participate. Whilst personally modelling and owning their own faith positions or belief, chaplains avoid any implications that any one religion, denomination or other set of beliefs is advantageous or superior to any other denomination, religion or belief.

The school's Chaplaincy Program complements other support services in the school such as those offered by the Guidance Officer. The chaplaincy service is not a counselling service. Chaplains do not refer to external agencies but report issues of concern to the Principal, who is responsible for external referral procedures.

Activities

The Chaplain is involved in a range of activities which happen at the school which are free of religious, spiritual and/or ethical content. These activities are available to all students on a voluntary basis unless a parent/guardian requests in writing that this is not to occur for their children.
The Chaplain may also be involved in activities with religious, spiritual and/or ethical content and additional consent is sought from parent/guardians for these specific activities.
Chaplaincy activities will be discussed on enrolment. Parents/carers will be informed in the newsletter or on the web-site when new chaplaincy services with a religious/spiritual component are to be introduced.
